Work + Services

Currently, I’m taking on project-based work. Here are a few realms in which I’m interested in collaborating.

Need Editing Work?

Editing, in my opinion, evens out the working creator’s load between brevity and substance in order to get to the dang point. It’s the necessity of putting outside eyes on work that often comes from a roughed-out internal place of good intentions and scrappy storytelling. As a writer myself, I totally get the sickly feeling of tossing beloved art into the lion’s den.

Because of this, I am passionate about embodying a sense of empathy for the edited writer/creative. But, this empathy is wielded with a double-edged knife of my own making. The two edges combine a well-honed sense of tact along with a sharp understanding of how to minimize fluff to heighten story.

Ultimately though, I believe that the writer is always the last word. At the heart of it, a good editor understands that their work is advice best taken in stride, thought about, then accepted or rejected. For me, it’s a joy to see how a piece of written art is refined, defined, and ultimately placed into the world as a polished stone.

Grammatically, I’m a believer in the Oxford comma, a stalwart for sentence structure, and a proponent for writing that eschews the floral for the stylistically tight. Think less Associated Press, more Strunk and White.

Projects Considered:

+ Brand stories
+ Audio Editing/Podcast Aid
+ Publication work (Need a backup editor? An Editor-At-Large? Another set of eyes?)
+ Personal work (Are you working on a book? A blog? A personal website?)
+ Contracted hourly editing

Rate: $50/hour, with room for negotiation dependent on scope.

Need Written Work?

I like to write. And I’ve written a lot. My line of work allowed me to become prolific by volume alone. More than 600 articles on top of full-time editing work at GearJunkie translates to 150 articles per year — a limited few of which exploded in the zesty zeitgeist of hunting culture.

Occasionally, it’s nice to blow things out of the water, but the majority of my work focused on driving traffic less through nefarious intrigue and more through Search Engine Optimization. I still managed to have fun writing these kind of pieces, and I write in a conversational tone laden with easter eggs. Simply put, I enjoy writing, and I like to make the oft-boring enjoyable to read.

These days, I’m less in SEO-mode, more in story-driven mode. And I’m looking to expand. I’m interested in copywriting, private journalism, brand-driven narratives, writing for podcasts and film, website and blog work, and more.

Projects Considered:

+ Brand work, including articles, blogs, copywriting, technical writing, website work, and more.
+ Publication work, including articles, Sponsored content, print work, etc.
+ Private Journalism (Want to tell a story about your family? Make a keepsake of your heritage, farm, ranch, etc?)
+ Contracted hourly writing

Rate: Room for negotiation dependent on scope.

Need Consulting Work for Multi-Level Brand Domination?

I’ve had an inside track at a few of the most successful brands in the sporting industry.

As ZPZ Production’s first Bozeman-based hire, I delved headfirst into the social media strategies of the time, learned the language of the hunting community, and combined both to grow the MeatEater foundation substantially — setting the pace it continues to grow at today. There, we combined social media, a new website, brand partnerships, and e-commerce with a television firebrand, and that combo changed how a hunting brand/personality could and should operate.

My time at Backcountry Hunters & Anglers added substantial NGO website work, organizational practices, and advocacy language to my tool kit.

Cap that with my time at GearJunkie, and I’ve had a long-term insider’s view at one of the most successful online publications out there. GearJunkie’s ability to lasso Google into submission, develop best practices in writing and editing to optimize for views and sales, optimize Affiliate strategy, strengthen brand partnerships, and offer a crystal clear take on the ethics of Sponsored Content made for an education unlike any other.

Prior to my work in the sporting world, I’ve served as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA), trained with a corporate management program, and worked in sales with hot-ticket software and tech. I know the language of both business and service.

Language, after all, is power. And it’s a power I’ve learned to harness with efficacy and efficiency. I’ve made a lot of people a lot of money. Let’s figure out how your brand can harness the power of an ever-changing world of online connection while maintaining an ethical and seductive balance for both your team and your audience.

Projects Considered:

+ Development of best practices for SEO, Affiliate marketing, and ethics in for online content.
+ Building style guides, editing systems for articles, content calendars, and more.
+ Organizing a social media plan that works for your brand.
+ I’m open to any conversation when it comes to consulting. Let’s talk.
